The Three Dishwasher Install Mistakes That Flood Kitchens
Water damage is now the leading cause of home insurance claims in Canada, and the dishwasher is a regular culprit.

1. No high loop on the drain
The drain hose has to rise above the level of the sink drain (or go through an air gap) before connecting. Without it, dirty sink water can siphon back into the dishwasher — and a clogged drain sends water onto the floor. It takes thirty seconds to do and delivery crews routinely skip it.
2. Reusing the old shut-off valve
The small valve under the sink that feeds the dishwasher is often original to the house and seized or weeping. Cranking a new braided supply line onto a corroded valve is how slow leaks start behind the kick plate. Replace it while the unit is out.
3. Not anchoring the unit
A dishwasher that isn't secured to the counter or cabinet sides walks forward when you pull a loaded rack, stressing the supply and drain connections. On stone counters, use side-mount brackets — never drill into quartz or granite.
